What Live Scan actually is
Live Scan is electronic fingerprinting. Instead of rolling your fingers in ink onto a card, we capture your prints digitally on a certified scanner and transmit them straight to the California Department of Justice, and on to the FBI when your form calls for a federal check as well.
It is faster than ink, it is cleaner, and it is far less likely to be rejected for poor impression quality. Most importantly, there is nothing for you to mail and nothing to lose in the post.

Almost anyone whose work brings them into contact with children, vulnerable adults, money, or public safety. If an agency has handed you a Request for Live Scan Service form, you need one.

How your appointment works
You book, we confirm
Tell us your ORI code and applicant type when you book and we will confirm your exact total before we ever get in the van.
We come to you
We arrive fully self-contained, with our own power. Home, office, job site, school, church, or care facility.
We capture and transmit
Ten rolled prints and flat impressions, checked for quality on the spot, then transmitted electronically. Usually 10 to 15 minutes for one person.
You get your ATI number
We hand you back your form with the ATI number printed on it. Keep it. That number is how you track your submission.
Checking your status
Use your ATI number at the California DOJ applicant status site: applicantstatus.doj.ca.gov.
California DOJ results typically reach the requesting agency within a few days, though some submissions take longer. Results go directly to the agency that requested them. We never see or receive them, and we cannot look them up for you.
If your prints are rejected
It happens occasionally, usually because of worn, scarred, or very dry fingertips, common in trades, healthcare, and anyone who works with their hands. It is not a reflection on you and it is not unusual.
If we processed the original submission, we come back and re-roll at no charge, and we cover the resubmission fees. That is our policy, not a favor.
What to bring
- Your Request for Live Scan Service form (BCIA 8016), issued by the agency requesting your check. We cannot create one for you.
- Valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID. Expired ID cannot be accepted, even by one day.
- Payment — card, cash, or company check.
